We are looking for an experienced PCB Layout Designer for a contracting opportunity in the Bloomington, MN area.  The selected candidate will assist engineers in the design and development of complex, detailed layouts of printed circuit boards used in demanding environments.  You will also participate in developing designs of new or modified high-density PCBs and may define design standards and configurations.

• Performs detailed layout design and documentation of printed circuit boards
• Produces two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) CAD work product output for fabrication and assembly
• Checks drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standard engineering drafting practices and standards
• May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage
• Works under minimal supervision
• Assists engineers in the design and development of complex and detailed layouts of printed circuit boards
• Participates in developing designs of new or modified high-density printed circuit boards
• May define design standards and configurations
• Works from preliminary schematics, part lists, and basic description of the board function, configuration, and arrangement as defined by engineering
• Instructs drafter in the completion of drawings and specifications
• May perform the checking of design layouts and detailed drawings

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience; or Master’s degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• A Department of Defense security clearance is not required.
• Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Experience designing high-count multilayer complex printed circuit boards
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience specifically using the most recent and current Mentor Graphics tools: DxDesigner/Expedition PCB, Autorouter, DMS and Drawing Editor
• Candidate must be well versed in Mil and IPC Standards.

• Constraint Editor / Constraint Manager
• Mentor Graphics DMS
• Valor Artwork checking tool
• Teamcenter Archive tool
• Distinct knowledge of material requirements, fabrication techniques, and manufacturability concepts
• Distinct knowledge of design principles and techniques including computer aided design (CAD)
• Distinct knowledge of the strategic CAD and file management tools
• Demonstrates initiative, applies personal talent to practical solutions
• Works within the trade space defined (cost / schedule / technology)
• Able to accept and integrate constructive feedback
• Demonstrates the ability to weigh risks and make progress in the face of uncertainty
• Willingly takes on problems and commits to solutions
• Distinct written and verbal communications skills
• At least 8 years relevant experience with Mentor Graphics ECAD software.
• Specific experience with Mentor Graphics VX2 PCB Layout Tool and Constraint Manager
• C.I.D. (Certified Interconnect Designer) is a plus
